BEFORE DEPARTURE  print this page

We have 18 hours left and we're far from ready...
We'll be away for a few weeks to document on
  • the tiny village of Heuningvlei in the Cederberg
  • Eksteenfontein and the Richtersveld Conservancy
  • the Ais-Ais/Richtersveld National Park
  • the feral horses of the Namib
  • living with the San

We're now 18 hours before departure and I'm still making phone calls to get all the logistics sorted, like getting the location permits and confirmation of other travel arrangements. Not to mention the shopping. We will be 5, and at some point 6 people, and we all need to eat and drink. I come from a culture where one enjoys the good things in life, so good food remains a priority... even in the bush.

Paul and the team are sorting out a technical problem with Dolly (time-lapse equipment) and we haven't packed anything at all yet, as usual. Gao is testing the camera and will soon start following us around. Paul will have to stop swearing:).

The office and the house look like a total mess.

Paul just tells me that he needs to go to Cape Town to get a new microphone. This will delay him at least another 3 hours.

Enya and James, my children, can hardly contain their excitement. The love traveling and are ready to hit the road. They keep on asking if we are indeed going to leave tomorrow morning. I'm not quite sure. We'll know tonight...
