"We are terrifying our children today," said McCarthy, referring to parents' over-protective urges. "We don't let them out of our sight." In discussing Connecticut State Parks' initiatives aimed at reconnecting families with nature, McCarthy asked, Is a kid who has never climbed a tree going to care if a forest is cut down?
